Dental Clinic Equipment Starter Kit: What to Include

Opening a new dental clinic—or adding an operatory—means deciding what equipment to buy first. Order too little and you'll be placing emergency reorders within weeks. Order too much and you'll tie up capital in items you won't use for months.

Here's a practical starter kit built around the most common daily procedures, using products SinaDent manufactures.

1. Scaling & Prophylaxis

This is the highest-volume category in most general practices. You'll need:

Scaler handpiece – Choose the HW-3H for efficient plaque and calculus removal in high-volume routine care, or the HW-5L if you treat many sensitive patients and want gentler, more controlled scaling. Both are EMS-compatible and autoclavable at 135°C.

Scaler tips – A starter set should cover both routine and periodontal needs:

G-Series (G1T–G6T) – Supragingival scaling and general prophylaxis

P-Series (P1T, P3T, P4T) – Subgingival scaling and periodontal pockets

PD2L / PD2R – Furcations and narrow interradicular spaces

Dental air scaler – Optional, but useful if you see patients with sensitivity or want a quieter alternative to ultrasonic scaling.

Prophy brushes – Cup-shaped for broad surface cleaning, cone-shaped for interproximal and orthodontic areas. Order by the box (100 pcs) to avoid running out.

2. Restorative Procedures

If you perform fillings, crown prep, or amalgam removal, you'll need burs:

Carbide Bur 330 – Pear-shaped, for cavity preparation and amalgam removal. Available in FG and RA shanks.

Carbide Bur FG-557 – Cylindrical fissure, for cavity prep and general shaping with high-speed handpieces.

Carbide Bur FG1957 / FG1958 – For removing metal crowns and PFM restorations.

A reasonable starter quantity is 10–20 pieces per commonly used shape. Burs wear out, so having spares on hand prevents mid-procedure interruptions.

3. Endodontic Treatment

If you offer root canal therapy:

Endo files – Stainless steel hand files for initial negotiation and calcified canals, plus NiTi rotary or reciprocating files for shaping curved canals.

Endo files holder – 8-hole or 16-hole, autoclavable at 135°C. Keeps files organised and within reach.

Ultrasonic endo tips (EDO, ED1–ED15) – For canal irrigation and cleaning, compatible with Satelec, DTE, and NSK units.

4. Accessories & Spares

These small items cause the biggest disruptions when they run out:

Scaler cables – Keep one spare on hand. A failed cable stops all scaling procedures.

Scaler wrenches – For secure tip tightening. Easy to misplace—order a few.

A Practical Starting Quantities Guide

Scaler handpiece – 1–2 units (one primary, one backup)

Scaler tips – 5–10 per commonly used model

Prophy brushes – 1–2 boxes per shape (cup and cone)

Carbide burs – 10–20 per commonly used shape

Endo files – Assorted sizes based on expected case volume

Scaler cables & wrenches – 1–2 spares each

Adjust based on your patient volume and the procedures you perform most.

What to Add Later

Don't buy everything at once. Wait until you know your actual usage patterns before investing in:

Additional handpiece models for specific patient needs

Full endo file systems in every size

Bulk orders of slow-moving items

Start with the core kit, track what you use most, then expand.
